UNIX Original Soldering Tips — Full Series Overview

UNIX Original Soldering Tips — Full Series Overview

UNIX (JAPAN UNIX / Yuni) original soldering tips cover the P / L / LS families and mate with 100 W–300 W bayonet heating elements. The tip and the heating element are separately replaceable (a separable design that lowers maintenance cost). The tip range is organized by tip geometry, with the most common families being D / V / N:

  • D-type — includes D-R / D-S / D-N; a wide wetting face for broad pads and drag soldering.
  • V-type — includes DVAP; a fine pointed tip for pins / narrow-pitch connectors.
  • N-type — includes P※V / L※V; a notch tip preferred for drag soldering and high-heat spot joints.

Select by joint shape (see the selection guide below). If you are still unsure after choosing, open the per-type guides above or contact authorized technical support.

JAPAN UNIX Company Statement

Caution: beware counterfeit products. JAPAN UNIX hereby declares that counterfeit imitations of its products — including soldering tips for automatic machines and for hand soldering — are circulating on the market. These counterfeits are mainly distributed in China, Korea and Taiwan, and some even bear our trademark without authorization, making it difficult for customers to tell genuine from fake and causing them loss.

Using counterfeit tips drastically shortens product life, and based on user feedback may severely damage the machine body and shorten the life of the heating element. JAPAN UNIX states clearly that it accepts no responsibility for any damage, accident or failure caused by the use of counterfeits, even within the warranty period.

We will closely monitor the manufacture and sale of counterfeits and take decisive action, including legal measures, against trademark infringement. We strongly recommend that customers purchase only through official channels — Shenzhen Xiaoma Chicheng Technology Co., Ltd. ensures you receive genuine products.

What series do UNIX original soldering tips include?

UNIX original tips come in the P (200 W bayonet) and L / LS (250 W bayonet) families, matched to bayonet heating elements. They work in perfect conjunction with the bayonet heating element: a stainless-steel bayonet structure ensures precise location (cathode) and contact with the recess inside the heater element. The surface is black-chrome plated; the tip wetting area is finished with lead-free solder.

A wide choice of standard tip shapes is offered, covering both spot and drag soldering. Three tip sizes adapt to heating elements from 100 W to 300 W thermal capacity. Special-shape tips can be custom-made on request.

How do UNIX tips differ from ordinary tips?

  • The heater and tip are separately designed and independently replaceable, reducing maintenance cost.
  • The temperature sensor is positioned at the tip end for high-precision thermal control and fast dynamic response.
  • Stainless-steel bayonet structure ensures precise location and stable contact with the heater element.
  • Black-chrome plating resists oxidation and reduces solder adhesion; only the wetting area is tinned with lead-free solder.

How to identify genuine UNIX soldering tips?

Buy from an authorized JAPAN UNIX distributor and verify the engraved model number against the official naming rules; beware cheap substitutes. See How to Identify Genuine UNIX Soldering Equipment & Parts.

What if the tip won’t wet / has a short life?

  • Keep the wetting (tinned) area freshly tinned; re-tin promptly after cleaning.
  • Avoid overheating and idle dwell at high temperature, which accelerates chromium-layer wear.
  • Use the correct heating element match (P→200 W, L/LS→250 W); mixing families shortens life.
  • For recurring issues, contact our technical support for selection or lifecycle advice.

Can special-shaped UNIX tips be customized?

Yes. Beyond standard shapes, we provide custom soldering tips built to your specific requirements (semi-custom or full-custom geometry).

Which heating elements / heaters are UNIX tips compatible with?

P-series tips fit 200 W bayonet heating elements; L / LS-series tips fit 250 W bayonet heating elements. The two families must not be mixed. Both long and short tip variants are available. Related: UNIX Heaters (Heating Elements).

Selection Guide — How to Choose the Right Tip Shape

UNIX tips are offered in P (200 W bayonet) / L·LS (250 W bayonet) families. Choose by:

  • Component size: the smaller the joint, the smaller the wetting-face width A (mm) — e.g. 0.8 mm U20203P, 1 mm P2D-N.
  • Substrate material: for heat-sensitive boards (flexible circuits, precision parts), pick a model with matched thermal capacity and fast temperature response to avoid overheating damage.
  • Joint method: spot soldering → pointed/fine tip; drag soldering (multi-pin rows) → wide-face tip (e.g. P4D-S / P6D-S).
  • Heater match: P family with 200 W bayonet element; L/LS family with 250 W bayonet element; not interchangeable.

FAQ

Are UNIX soldering tips hollow?

No. UNIX original tips use a hollow bayonet structure; the tip and the heating element are separate, with the temperature sensor placed at the tip end. The two are independently replaceable — ensuring precise location while lowering maintenance cost.

How to choose P / L / LS series tips?

By the thermal capacity of the matched heating element: P family with 200 W bayonet elements; L / LS family with 250 W bayonet elements. Three tip sizes adapt to 100 W–300 W heating elements. Custom shapes are available on request.

Which joints are D / V / N tips suited to?

D-type has a wide wetting face — best for broad pads and drag soldering. V-type is fine-pointed — best for pins / narrow-pitch joints. N-type is a notch tip — preferred for drag soldering and high-heat spot joints. See each type’s buying guide.

How to identify genuine UNIX soldering tips?

Purchase from an authorized JAPAN UNIX distributor and verify the engraved model number against the official naming rules to avoid counterfeit substitutions. See the genuine-identification guide.

What are the black-chrome layer and the tinned area?

The black-chrome plating resists oxidation and reduces solder adhesion; only the wetting (tinned) area is finished with lead-free solder to guarantee soldering. The grey area is the tinned zone.

Can the tips be customized?

Yes. Beyond standard shapes, we provide custom soldering tips built to your specific requirements.
